Senior/Staff Node.js Engineer (CKEditor Team)

At CKSource we produce software components that other developers use to build their applications (WYSIWYG editor, file manager, document converters, etc.). Our flagship product is CKEditor 5 – an open-source, modern TypeScript, rich text editor with custom data model and virtual DOM – check our GitHub repository.

Your new role

Our company is seeking skilled individuals to join one of many teams of experienced professionals working on the flagship projects: CKEditor Cloud Services, AI, Customer Portal, CKBox which is a largely real-time backend project aiming to aid and expand the capabilities of the CKEditor 5 and CKEditor 4 software projects with new features. This person will join a team that will primarily be developing and maintaining the core modules/platform that is used in all backend projects.

On the technical side, we work with Node.js (TypeScript) using microservices architecture, using PostgreSQL/MySQL (AWS RDS), Redis (AWS ElastiCache), queue systems (AWS SQS), AWS CloudMap or ZeroMQ, run from AWS ECS, while the infrastructure is created with Terraform (and others).

To be successful in this role you need the following:

• Previous experience in building backend systems

• Strong knowledge of Node.js and TypeScript

• Strong analytical skills and critical thinking, pragmatism, and communication skills

• Ability to make efficient decisions, to combine technical things with business decisions

• Focus on code quality and best practices

• Interest in software design patterns and architecture like a modular monolith and/or microservices

• Proficiency in writing maintainable and reliable tests (unit tests, integration tests, E2E tests)

• Comfort with speaking and writing in English

What would be nice to have:

• Experience in building reusable modules/platforms/frameworks

• Experience with DevOps, SRE, DevEx areas

• Experience with observability tooling: metrics, tracing, and logging stacks

• Contributing to open-source projects

• Interest in technological innovations, following industry trends

• Experience with infrastructure as code (Terraform preferred)
