We have experienced steady growth over the years and employ over 260 people globally. Nearly half of our team is based in Poland (CKEditor). We are currently seeking a Staff Software Engineer to lead the development of our globally used product, ButterCMS.

Your new role:

As a Senior Django Engineer, you’ll contribute to the technical evolution of ButterCMS, modernizing the architecture, addressing long-standing performance challenges. You’ll collaborate closely with our Staff Engineer, product manager, and engineers to build a high-performing, maintainable platform. Our core stack includes Django, PostgreSQL, Memcached, and Vue.js.

In addition to improving the core application, a major focus this year will be working on the migration of our billing and subscription infrastructure to a new platform—integrating systems such as Maxio, Salesforce, or other modern subscription management tools.

This is a B2B contract for a 12-month project, with a potential extension based on project scope and mutual agreement.

Job requirements

To be successful in this role you need the following:

  • Strong experience building web applications in Python, particularly with Django and PostgreSQL.

  • Good grasp of software design principles, RESTful API design, and scalable architectures.

  • Hands-on experience with debugging, profiling, and refactoring production applications.

  • Familiarity with AWS/Heroku/Kubernetes, CI/CD, and scalable cloud architectures.

  • A collaborative mindset and the ability to work effectively within a distributed team.

  • Excellent communication skills and a proactive attitude.

  • Experience with Vue.js or similar modern frameworks (React, Svelte, etc.) is a strong plus.

  • Interest or experience in AI technologies is a bonus.

  • Experience working on maturing products or large codebases is a strong plus.

  • Experience integrating third-party platforms (especially subscription/billing platforms) is a plus.
